Available Fall 2011, check out the first official photos of the 2012 "New" Volkswagen Beetle
Volkswagen's retro-styled sporty/performance car is redesigned to be a "New New Beetle."
VW has recently confirmed, the "New" Beetle will simply be called
"Beetle" when it goes on sale in the fall of 2011. It's a bit
larger, roomier, but many other things will be
familiar.
What We Know About the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle
A
redesigned replacement for Volkswagen's New Beetle sporty/performance
car has been rumored for the past several years and now it's here--or
soon will be. According to VW, the "New" Beetle will be in
U.S. showrooms by fall of 2011.
A legacy of the 2005 Ragster
Concept, the re-profiled "greenhouse" should combine with the expanded
exterior package for improved rear-seat headroom, a longstanding
criticism of the current dome-top design. Rear legroom and shoulder room
should be more generous as well.
Still, the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will not be
confused with any other car, as the familiar curved snout, round
headlamps, bulged fenders and high waistline all continue, albeit in
modified form. The same applies to the convertible's traditional
German-bulky top stack. But the overall effect will be more "serious"
and less "chick car," in line with VW's goal of expanding the Bug's
market reach.
